Our History

Founded in April 2012

Acclaim was originally formed as a scratch Christian choir in April 2012 to support Keith and Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, as part of their Celtic Islands tour, an event promoted and supported by New Scottish Arts and aLive Ministry.

Following that event, the choir loved the experience so much that they decided to continue, and their next event was a production for Christmas 2012 entitled “The Day Between”, again in partnership with New Scottish Arts.  The concert in Culloden Academy Theatre, Inverness, included a drama written and acted by Jerry and Elizabeth Averill, and was thoroughly enjoyed by a packed auditorium.  Since then, Acclaim has continued to sing to large audiences twice a year in Inverness and Dingwall.

Members of the choir hail from across the Highlands, and are supported at events by local musicians.

“The choir”, as it was called originally, adopted the name “Acclaim” in the lead up to “Risen!”, an Easter celebration held in Eden Court Theatre in 2013, sponsored and promoted by aLive Ministry.

As a Christian choir, Acclaim is made up of members from a wide variety of denominations.  Since its inception, it has helped build bridges across Highland churches, bringing Christians from all denominations together, and building new friendships.  As our tag line, “Acclaim in whole-hearted worship”, suggests, we aim to worship God through both traditional and contemporary worship songs, and so be a dynamic Christian witness in the Highlands.
